The Atlanta Film Festival, in association with Georgia Production Partnership, is proud to present this workshop: The Business Basics of Indie Filmmaking with Producer Linda Burns.


Location: The Lovett School – Fuqua Center Blackbox Theater

Location/Directions Information: The campus is best accessed from the front gate (4075 Paces Ferry Road NW, Atlanta GA, 30327). Once on campus, drive down the hill and park as close as possible to the building directly at the bottom. Cross a small footbridge over the pond and enter the Fuqua Center through the glass doors. The workshop will be hend within the center’s Blackbox Theatre. Signage will be provided.


Planning to produce a feature film but not sure where to start? Interested in peaking behind the curtain to see what it really takes? This class will teach you the importance of development – from financing to marketing and distribution, to help your film get off to a great start.

Just a few topics we’ll cover in class: What is development and why is it so important? When do I create a marketing and distribution plan? How does financing work – from grants to crowd-funding to private investment? How does product placement work? What content goes into a business proposal? What is a breakdown and schedule? How do I craft a budget When do I need an entertainment attorney? What contracts are important? How do I find good cast and crew? Is insurance necessary? What kinds do I need? How do I find financing and distribution? What do finance and distribution deals looks like? How do the GA tax incentives work? How can attending festivals help? Answers to these questions and more, with plenty of time for questions.

This Business Basics of Indie Filmmaking workshop is part of the Atlanta Film Festival’s year-round slate of programming curated and presented to our Atlanta audience in service of our mission: to lead the community in creative and cultural discovery through the moving image.
